Detection Technology in Medicine Group
Brief Introduction
The group primarily focuses on the medical applications of ion radiotherapy detection technology and nuclear detection technology, as well as research on spectrometer control, high-speed data transmission, mass spectrometry technology, and support for large-scale scientific facilities and experimental terminal construction.
The group was formerly responsible for the design and construction of the beam diagnosis and terminal detector system for China's first domestically produced medical heavy-ion cancer therapy facility (HIMM). The related QA detectors have been adopted by the Chinese National Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The team also led the construction of the beam diagnostic systems for the HIRFL-CSR and the SESRI ring and beam lines. Current projects include the development of a cluster mass spectrometry separation beam line for Nanjing University's Atomic Extreme Microfabrication Experimental Facility, and the development of FLASH detectors. Participation in ongoing projects includes the construction of the CSR External target Experiment (CEE), the control System for the High-Rigidity Radioactive Ion Beam Line (HIRIBL), atomic-level manufacturing facilities, and the detector control system for the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at GSI in Germany.
The group currently has 14 staff members, including 3 full professors/senior researchers and 6 associate professors/senior researchers, along with 16 graduate students.
Areas of graduate enrollment:
Accelerator Engineering, Nuclear Electronics and Nuclear Detection Technology, Control Theory and Control Engineering, Computer Science, Nuclear Energy and Nuclear Technology Engineering, Nuclear Technology and Applications, Electronic Information.
Research Fields
1. Medical Detection
Research on 3D dose measurement technology for proton and heavy-ion radiotherapy, development of QA detectors, and novel techniques for FLASH radiotherapy dosimetry. Undertaking a project on machine learning-based real-time measurement of dose depth distribution.
2. Control system for Spectrometer/ Nuclear Terminals
Research on high-speed data transmission technology and distributed control technology. Currently, the group is in charge of the detector control system for the CEE and the control system design and implementation for the German GSI-CBM experiment.
3. Medical Front-End Electronics
FPGA algorithm development, machine learning algorithm porting, and front-end electronics development. The related electronics and algorithms have been applied to detectors for proton/heavy-ion cancer therapy.
4. Instrumentation Technology
The group focuses on accelerator mass spectrometry for isotope detection and the development of miniaturized mass spectrometry technology. The mass spectrometry separation beam line for the Nanjing University atomic-level manufacturing pre-research project has been completed. Ongoing work includes the development of magnetic and miniaturized mass spectrometers.
5. Facility Construction
Technical support for the atomic-level manufacturing facility and experimental terminal construction.
