Beam Feedback and Machine Protection Group
Brief Introduction
The group is primarily responsible for accelerator beam diagnostics, beam feedback systems, machine protection, stochastic cooling, impedance measurement, and related technological innovations. Since its establishment, the team has undertaken major scientific facility construction tasks. Major projects include the Heavy Ion Research Facility Lanzhou (HIRFL), the Cooling Storage Ring (CSR), the ADS Injector II (a Strategic Priority Research Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), the Space Environment Simulation Research Infrastructure (SESRI), the Proton Radiation Effects Facility (PREF), the High intensity Heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF), the China Initiative Accelerator Driven Sub-critical System (CiADS), and the Lanzhou Medical Isotope Project. The team has accumulated extensive engineering experience and technical expertise.
Over the past five years, addressing core requirements for large-scale scientific facilities such as HIAF, the team has achieved a series of major technological breakthroughs. These include the independent research and development of over 20 types and 1,600+ sets of beam diagnostics and machine protection electronics; the design and construction of complex, facility-grade beam loss monitoring systems, fast/slow machine protection systems, and wideband beam feedback systems. In cutting-edge detector R&D, the team has achieved critical domestic breakthroughs in low-noise ACCT/DCCT beam current transformers, 2K/4K cryogenic Beam Position Monitors, radiation-hard SiO₂ coaxial cables, 20 GHz ultra-high bandwidth bunch length monitors and Faraday cups, as well as medical beam delivery and slow-extraction probes.
The team currently comprises over 30 members, including four senior chief engineers and more than ten senior engineers. The group has trained over 30 graduate students and is responsible for executing more than ten projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. With extensive technical experience in beam diagnostics, beam feedback, machine protection, stochastic cooling, and impedance measurement both domestically and internationally, the team welcomes extensive exchanges and collaborations.
