Brief Introduction
The Accelerator Technology Center is a leading national hub for innovation and technological development in the field of heavy-ion accelerators. The Center is dedicated to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of advanced accelerator facilities, as well as the research and development of key technologies. It plays a vital role in supporting frontier research in nuclear science and expanding the applications of heavy-ion technology.
At the forefront of fundamental physics and interdisciplinary research, the Center has been deeply involved in the construction and operation of major national scientific facilities, including the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL) and the High Intensity Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF). Through sustained innovation, the Center has achieved significant breakthroughs in high-intensity, high-precision, and high-stability ion acceleration, strengthening China’s global competitiveness in nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, and related frontier disciplines.
Aligned with national strategic priorities and societal needs, the Center also promotes the development and engineering application of compact dedicated heavy-ion accelerators. It has established distinctive technological strengths in areas such as heavy-ion cancer therapy, materials irradiation, biomedicine, and germplasm innovation, expanding the important application of heavy-ion technology.
With a strong focus on the future of accelerator science and technology, the Center continuously conducts cutting-edge research in beam dynamics, advanced acceleration principles, beam cooling, high-performance magnets, RF systems, vacuum technology, beam diagnostics, and AI-enabled control systems. These efforts are driving heavy-ion accelerator technology toward higher energies, higher intensities, and higher beam quality.
