3rd RIKEN RNC-CAS IMP Joint Symposium Held

The 3rd RIKEN RNC-CAS IMP Joint Symposium was held in Wako, Japan from November 7 to 8, aiming to further promote exchanges and cooperation between Riken and the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Prof. WANG Meng, deputy director of IMP led a delegation to the symposium. Representatives from the Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS, Peking University, Beijing Normal University, Southern University of Science and Technology and other relevant institutions also attended.

At the symposium, Prof. Makiko Naka, executive director of RIKEN, and Prof. Hiroyoshi Sakurai, director of the Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science (RNC), warmly welcomed the Chinese delegates. Prof. WANG Meng also expressed his gratitude to RIKEN and suggested that the next symposium be held in Huizhou, China.

Prof. Osamu Kamigaito from RNC introduced the research and operation progress of the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory, while Prof. WANG Meng introduced the latest progress of the High Intensity Heavy-ion Accelerator Facility Construction. Participants shared the latest progress in various frontier research fields, including mass measurements of short-lived nuclei, radioactive beam physics experiments, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure theory, and heavy-ion collision physics.

Moreover, both sides reviewed their cooperation history since the 1970s and conducted in-depth discussions on future cooperation, hoping to further strengthen scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation and exchanges.
