Plasma physics group was founded in 2011, originally from the RIB (Radioactive Ion Beam) research group. As part of the Experiment Physics Center of IMP, the group currently has 7 staffs and 7 students, most of the researching projects in this group are from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Major State Basic Research Development Program of China (`973` Program) and others. Significant progresses on the studies of the related topics in HCI (highly charged ion) physics and HED (High Energy Density) physics have been achieved; relevant papers have been published in domestic and overseas journals. Zhao Yongtao is the group leader.

Domestic and international collaboration

Plasma physics group of IMP has successfully established close collaboration with both domestic and international institutions and universities such as Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xianyang Normal University, Lanzhou University, Laser Fusion Research Center in China, GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung, Technische Universität Darmstadt and Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany, Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics in Russia, University of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain and so on.
