Half of elements from iron to bismuth are produced by AGB stars. We believe that another half of elements and the actinide elements, such as uranium and thorium, are produced by the r-process, possibly happening in Type-II supernovae or neutron star mergers. We are identifying the important nuclear processes for the experiments to be carried out at HIAF.
