Abstract:

Impurity  seeding will be required for fusion reactors such as ITER or DEMO for radiative cooling, plasma control, and diagnostics. Through X-ray spectroscopy, the impurity ion density, ion temperature, and plasma rotation within the fusion plasma can be measured. This technique requires accurate state-resolved electron-capture cross sections for collisions between the seeded impurity ion and the neutral beam injected during diagnostics. We investigate this problem using the wave-packet convergent close-coupling approach. I will introduce our method and present some of our recent results for a few important collision systems. This will be followed by a discussion of our current work and future plans, including avenues for collaboration.
