3rd Meeting of HIRFL-IAC Held in Lanzhou
The third meeting of International Advisory Committee of Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL-IAC) was held in Lanzhou from May 10 to 11, 2012.
The experts in the fields of heavy ion physics and accelerator physics from all over the world, got together and reviewed the status and developments of HIRFL, research programs and new projects at IMP since last HIRFL-IAC meeting.
During the meeting, the highlights of the research work at HIRFL since last HIRFL-IAC meeting were reported and reviewed. New research programs, new projects at IMP, and HIRFL status and developments were also presented. Group discussions in accelerator physics, nuclear and atomic physics, theoretical nuclear physics, and applied physics were held. IAC experts put forward a lot of valuable suggestions on physics research and facility development of HIRFL.
The Committee members agreed that significant progresses had been made in accelerator technology, nuclear physics and applied physics at IMP in the past two years. They spoke highly of the ADS and HIAF projects at IMP, although key technological problems in ADS need to be solved and feasible experiments and accelerator design for HIAF need further discussion and optimization.
Committee pointed out that the problems of multi-task and tight schedule for constructions in two cities and too young research staff needed to be solved.
Prof. G. Münzenberg, the chairman of HIRFL-IAC and the heavy ion physicist from Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung mbH (GSI) in Germany, presided over the meeting. 13 experts of heavy ion physics and accelerator physics from France, Germany, Japan, Russia, and U.S.A attended the meeting.
