Wenlong Zhan

Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, researcher and doctoral tutor, was born in Xiamen of Fujian in Oct. 1955. He graduated from the Experimental Nuclear Physics of Modren Physics Department of Lanzhou University in Jan. 1982. He was a previous vice-director and director of Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Now he is a vice-president of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

He has been in charge of the study of low and intermediate energy heavy ion nuclear physics for a long time. From 1986 to1988 he made the researches of intermediate energy heavy ion and radioactive nuclear beam physics in GANIL, Frances. From 1991 to 1993 he made the study of relativistic heavy ion in Columbia University of USA, BNL and LBL National Laboratory. He participated in and chaired partly the major and key projects of ``65’’, ``75”, ``85” and ``95” , and got a series of innovative results. 

As a major participant and person in charge of partial researches in GANIL, he with his partners firstly discovered 11 new nuclides and identified the quality of exotic nuclei direct measurement as well as partial reaction cross section of more than 30 exotic nuclei. He with his colleagues of IMP verified the reaction mechanism of ``non-full of deep inelastic collisions”. He was in charge of designing and constructing the radioactive nuclear beam line in Lanzhou (RIBLL) in HIRFL, which reached the 90's international advanced level, and he had made a number of proton nuclear exotic nuclei experimental researches. As a project leader, he completed excellently the construction of HIRFL-CSR and all the project passed the national acceptance. The innovative achievements in relevant sub-projects of electron cooler devices, ultra-high vacuum and control system so on are highly praised both at home and abroad. Recently the clinical trial of heavy-ion beams to treat cancer in HIRFL has been making greatly. 

He published more than 60 papers in academic journals and conferences at home and abroad. He received many awards, such as the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress, the first prize and the third prize in Natural Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the first prize of Technological Progress, the first prize in Scientific and Technological Progress of Gansu Province. He was founded by Outstanding Youth Science Fund of Natural Science Fund Committee and awarded for Outstanding Young Scholar Physics Award of Qiushi Foundation, Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Silver Winner of the Outstanding Sons and Daughters Border. He was named an outstanding returned overseas student, outstanding scientific and technological personnel, outstanding professional and technical personnel, May 1st Labor Medal winner and National Outstanding Party Member. He was elected as CPC 15, and 16 delegates, and alternate member of Seventeenth Session of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
