On February 26-27, the DLR-IMP Bilateral Workshop on Space Radiobiology was held at the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMP) in Lanzhou.
The workshop is to provide a great opportunity for researchers in the field of Space Radiobiology to report their newest achievements and exchange ideas, and further facilitate the bilateral cooperation on the long-term human permanence in deep space.
The four themes and topics discussed during the workshop are following: Radiation dosimetry and biological research towards mitigation of radiation risk in space; Recent progress of space radiobiology with heavy ions; Diamagnetic levitation technique based on large gradient high magnetic field; Perspectives on microRNA as a novel countermeasure tool.
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national center for aerospace, energy and transportation research of the Federal Republic of Germany. IMP is the only research institution with a high-energy heavy ion accelerator in China, which could be used to simulate space conditions.
About 20 researchers from both China and Germany attended the two-day’s workshop. The director assistant of IMP, Dr. Xinwen Ma, delivered the opening speech and introduced IMP to all the participants. The director of IMP, Dr. Guoqing Xiao respectively signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dr. Guenther Reitz from the DLR.
