Prof. Guoqing Xiao (left ), the director of IMP presented Prof. Yongmin Cho (right) the certificate.
On November 6, 2012, Prof. Yongmin Cho from Korea was awarded the Certificate of Visiting Professor of the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMP).
Prof. Yongmin Cho is the Permanent Member of Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the Member of Korea Academy of Science and Technology one of the founders of the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP) and became the executive director of APCTP in 1996. Now he is the distinguished chair professor in Konkuk University.
Prof. Yongmin Cho is a world-famous scientist in the unified field theory, high energy physics, general relativity and cosmology. In 1996, a new particle was predicted by Prof. Cho and his collaborate, and named the "Cho-Maison" monopole. Now, European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) developed a new detector named MoEDAL via the "Magnificent Seventh" Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiment to search the "Cho-Maison" monopole etc. It is one of most important experiments in LHC after the discovery of Higgs particle.
At the ceremony, Prof. Cho briefly introduced the progress of the MoEDAL and the research status of magnetic monopole, and expressed his appreciation and he would do his best to promote the scientific collaboration between IMP and Konkuk University.
